Introduction

Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) was established in 1988 after being separated from the State Bank of Vietnam. Having undergone nearly 33 years of operation, VietinBank has become one of the leading commercial bank in Vietnam, providing financial and banking products and services of unmatched quality. In 2020, according to Brand Finance’s announcement, VietinBank ranked 277th and twice in a row to be the only Vietnamese bank to win the Top 300 Most Valuable Banking Brands in the world. For the 9th consecutive year, VietinBank was listed on Forbes Global 2000 (Top 2000 largest enterprises worldwide) compiled by Forbes. In addition, VietinBank is the first one in Vietnam to establish branches in Europe and has a relationship with more than 1,000 correspondent banks worldwide.

VietinBank, Filiale Deutschland opened its first branch in Frankfurt on 06 Sep.2011, and then a sub-branch in Berlin on 28 May 2012. VietinBank German Branch is a universal bank under Vietnamese law and a legally dependent branch of Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade, Hanoi Vietnam. The Branch is licensed to provide all banking transactions and financial services in accordance with section 1 (1) sentence 2 no. 1 - 5 and 7 - 9 of the KWG.

The Bank is the first and sole Vietnamese bank operating in Germany (and in Europe) and is focusing on business links between Germany and Vietnam in general and trade relationships between the two countries in particular. This is also in view of the stimulus expected from the recent ratification of the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) on the economic partnership of the two countries. Our business activity is aligned with the strengths of Vietnamese and German economies and growing trade volumes between these countries, defined as our core markets. This creates enormous opportunities for enterprises of both countries interested in exploring new lucrative markets.

Acting as an offshore bank and integral part of Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade, one of Vietnam’s leading financial institutions, our ambition is to position the branch as a relevant member of the German financial community and a preferred partner of its target customers. The Bank is a member of Association of German Banks, Association of Foreign Banks in Germany and Deposit Protection Scheme of German Banks.
